Within the Real Presence Cloud AXIS Suite app, which Polycom introduces today, a user can see a single list of all their friends across different chat clients, including Skype, Facebook, and Google Talk. The app allows them to start a multi-person videoconference with anyone using those clients by dragging and dropping their name into a window within this app.In a quick tech demo, Zuckerberg and some senior engineers from Facebook's Seattle office demonstrated how the new chat features, which will start rolling out today, combine group messaging and video calls.Operating entirely through the existing Facebook interface, the video calls use a stripped-down but supposedly quite functional version of the Skype p2p chat technology that will require a minimal installation (Tech Crunch is reporting that it only takes a few seconds to activate), and won't require any additional Skype account or login.Nope, you should really be far more worried about video chat accessibility to your Aunt Mildred, who had never figured out how to sign up for Skype but might just be capable of a one-click video call. If you didn't used to stay invisible on FB Chat, now might be the time to start.
You may have to exaggerate the nods because, depending on the quality of a person’s Internet connection, sometimes it’s hard to tell what from what.
A year ago I’d never even heard of Skype, but then I somehow fell for an Australian girl I met on Facebook who I never actually met in real life.
(It’s normal.) The majority of our “relationship” consisted of emails and text messages.
A first date can be arranged via Skype and if all goes well, the romance will blossom into a super expensive and not all that fullfilling quarterly visitation; and if not — well then you just sat through some kind of weird interview for no reason. Leading up to the first date, make sure to set a specific time, being mindful of each other’s time zones.
For a good first Skype date to reach its full potential, it’s important to treat it the same way you would a real date. Write the time down in your planner and make a little notation that says “first date with whoever” and draw some hearts around it.
That will send an IM to the invitees with a link that lets them join the conference without the need to install software or be an existing Real Presence user.
